Finding the right people for your project is daunting for a reason. A bad contractor can lead to many months of conflict and strife but a good contractor can make the build experience pain free for you and your family. Selecting the right builder for your project alone can be extremely difficult but we can provide knowledge and expertise to ensure you pick the team that make your project the pleasure it can be.

Beware of Referrals

Referrals are great but the friends and family who offer them often may have used the nominated contractor for a different type of project. Contractors will often describe themselves as general builders, but in truth nearly all have specialisms and strengths that make them better suited to particular types of projects, and it's unlikely that this is clear in the way they present themselves online or in person.

We have worked with contractors for many years, building a select list of competent people and businesses with whom we have no financial ties, so we can independently make suggestions for contractors who have the right competencies, specifically for your project. These are tried and tested people, of whom we know their strengths and their weaknesses so we can target our referrals accordingly. We will make any introductions you request from our suggested panel of contractors, so that you can meet them, check out their references and even view their previous or ongoing projects.

People

Personality is equally important competency. Having a builder in your home for months is a personal thing. Opening your door and your chequebook needs to be reserved for the right people. We highly recommend an informal interview process, which is less about the project and more of a chance to see if you like the attitude, drive and personality of the team you will need to work with during your project.

We do not accept commission or favour from the people and businesses we recommend, we undertake to make these independent referrals because we know the immense benefits good contractors bring to our clients and to us.

Insurances

When you appoint Clear Surveys to undertake the Contract Stage of your project, we will also check the nominated Contractor's insurances to ensure they have in date policies that specifically cover them for the types of works the Schedule of Works describes. Worryingly, a significant proportion of pre contract insurance checks we make on businesses we do not already know, show that the contractors are often underinsured for the works they are already undertaking, let alone the project they are tendering for.
