Damp Surveys
If you or you or your tenants are having persistent problems with damp, early, targeted intervention can prevent large repair bills later. Some damp specialists offer free surveys, but they are not independent surveyors, so their recommendations come tied to the only services they can offer. We are different. We charge a small fee to cover our time but our recommendations are selected from the full spectrum of available repairs. We do not gain from larger repair bills so are free to offer the advice that best suits the issues at hand. We will assess the defects, provide a detailed written report listing the causes, preventative measures and our recommendations for repair.
Equipment
We use a combination of modern detection methods such as depth protimeters and thermal imaging cameras to understand the causes behind the dampness. We combine this with our experience to best determine the root causes so that repairs can be targeted and affordable.
Different types of damp
We understand the often nuanced differences between types of damp.
Penetrating damp, descending damp, condensation and salt infiltrated plaster can all appear the same during a visual inspection, so collecting further evidence is crucial to an accurate diagnosis.

We use investigative techniques and experience to ensure we provide targettered, affordable solutions that are prioritised in terms of cost and effectiveness to ensure, low tech, low cost solutions are not ignored in favour of costly blanket approach damp proofing.
Taking time to explain
A large volume of contributing damp, especially in tenanted properties often comes from the lifestyle choices of the occupants. Not adequately ventilating the property via the appliances and apparatus provided to perform these functions, or adding excess moisture by drying clothes inside, can all be contributing factors to a wider issue. Even excessive cleaning of the mould that forms on damp can be an aggravating factor. That's why it's important that we take our time to discuss with the occupants about how they live and how this can affect the moisture levels in the property. A simple written report alone is nowhere near as effective as the outcome of a detailed discussion with the occupants.
Depth of knowledge
Having a detailed knowledge of all types of building defects allows us to see the broader picture. Damp proofing specialists will often focus on how the damp can be prevented from displaying on the walls, floor or ceilings whilst neglecting the root cause of the issue. In the picture above, several roofing defects are contributing to dampness in the walls below. The walls need zero intervention and simple roof repairs, tackled from outside the home, are all that is required.
Fixed Price Surveys
We currently offer fixed price Damp Surveys in our area. For a small fixed fee of £399, we attend the property, assess the issues, discuss the findings with the occupants and draw up detailed written recommendations which can be provided to a competent contractor to provide a quote. We can also recommend contractors who will be able to assist with the works so that you do not have to deal with any unscrupulous businesses.
